Pastor Randolph T. Miller – Senior Pastor

Email: Pastor.ebcmedford@yahoo.com

Pastor Miller

Pastor Miller was born and raised in Chicago, where he was introduced to the Christian faith in the American Baptist tradition.  Following a turbulent and rebellious young adulthood, while studying at the University of Illinois at Chicago (BA, 1973), and Loyola University of Chicago (MSW, 1978), he encountered Christ in a personal way and embarked on the Way of the Cross.   As a disciple he began a course of study at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div, 1986) in an effort to explore and develop the call to ministry.    In 1987, he was ordained for Christian ministry through the Moraine Valley Community Church and endorsed through the American Baptist Churches of Metro Chicago.

Pastor Miller and family

While at seminary, he served as the coordinator for a Christian camp known as Camp Grow on Green Lake in Wisconsin.  It was also during this time that he met his future wife Leslie Ma (a school psychologist in Los Angeles) at the National Singles Conference at the Green Lake Conference Center.    She moved to the Midwest in 1985 and they were married in 1986.

Following graduation from seminary, Pastor Miller was called to First Baptist Church of Campbellsport, Wisconsin where he served from 1985 to 1990.    It was during this time that the Miller’s daughter, Sarah, was born.

In 1990, he assumed the pastorate of First Baptist Church – Westchester in Los Angeles continuing his ministry there until May of 2005.   While serving this multi-cultural urban church, he also provided leadership to the Ministers Council and the Ordination Committee of the American Baptist Churches of Los Angeles.   During this time, Pastor Miller’s wife, Leslie was employed as a school psychologist with a specialty in autism and served schools in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County.

As an interesting side note, Leslie’s grandfather was a “street preacher” in China and her father, after being trained in the USA, returned to China as a minister of the Gospel.   Restricted by the policies of the Communists, he moved to Hong Kong and then immigrated to San Francisco.   He completed his ministry in Los Angeles at the Chinese United Methodist Church in Chinatown, Los Angeles.   Pastor Miller quips that he married into “family business.”

In April of 2005, the Millers were called to Eastwood Baptist Church and began their work in August of 2005.   Sarah is currently a senior at St. Mary’s High School where she is preparing for college and pursuing a variety of sports activities.
